We start inside, not on the roof. Where the stain is, how far the moisture meter reads wet around it, and which direction the readings fade tell us the path the water took. When the entry point is still not obvious, we water-test. One area at a time, low volume, while watching inside, so the first place that shows moisture is the real one instead of the whole roof at once. A membrane puncture gets a bonded patch of matching material, not a smear of caulk. A failed roof-edge termination bar is re-fastened and re-sealed along its full length.
