A replacement means a complete, brand-new roof
When we replace an RV roof, nothing from the old roof goes back on except the RV itself. We remove every roof accessory (air conditioner, vents, skylights, antennas, ladder brackets, termination bars and trim), strip the damaged membrane off completely, and inspect the decking underneath. Broken, wet or delaminated decking is cut out and replaced with new plywood; cracked rafters and framing are repaired; wet insulation is replaced. Then a single, brand-new membrane goes on, wrinkle-free and wrapped at the edges, with heat-welded or adhesive-bonded seams depending on the material. Accessories are reinstalled with new gaskets, new butyl and new self-leveling sealant at every penetration, or replaced outright when they are worn. We never patch and reuse a torn membrane and we never lay a new membrane over an old one.
Most replacements take one to three days on site depending on RV length and how much decking is involved, longer when there is structural work. We do it at your driveway, campground or storage yard; the RV is never towed to a shop and never waits weeks in a service lot.
Membrane options
EPDM rubber and TPO are the two common membranes; TPO is what most manufacturers install today because it is reflective, heat-weldable and long-lived. Fiberglass and one-piece systems are heavier but very durable. We recommend the membrane that fits your RV, your budget and how you use it, and we explain the trade-offs before you decide.
How the insurance side works
Comprehensive RV coverage generally applies to sudden, accidental damage: a falling tree or limb, hail, wind that peels the membrane, storm debris, an impact. It generally does not apply to slow leaks from worn sealant, delamination or neglect, and every coverage decision belongs to your carrier. The claim moves as fast as the documentation is complete, and that is where most owners lose time and money. We photograph and measure the damage before anything is touched, tarp the opening to stop further damage, and write an itemized estimate in the format adjusters work from: labor hours and rate, membrane type and square footage, decking sheets, each accessory removed and reinstalled or replaced, sealants and hardware, disposal and travel. When you authorize it we speak with your adjuster directly and walk them through the scope line by line. Many carriers now use photo or desk adjusters who never see the roof, which makes a technician's report the deciding document. If we open the roof and find covered damage the estimate could not see, we document it and submit a supplement.
Deductibles, depreciation and your right to choose
Your deductible comes off the payout. Whether the rest is paid at replacement cost or at actual cash value depends on your policy; actual-cash-value policies deduct depreciation, which matters on an older roof, so it is worth asking your agent which you have. In Massachusetts and Rhode Island you generally have the right to choose your repair contractor; a carrier's preferred shop is an option, not a requirement. We are the repair contractor, not a public adjuster, and we do not decide coverage. What we do is make sure the damage is proven and the scope is correct.
Storm season on the South Coast
Nor'easters, summer thunderstorms and the occasional tropical system bring down oak and pine limbs across the South Coast, Plymouth County and the Cape every year, and RVs stored under trees are the first casualties. If a limb comes down on your RV, stay off the roof, photograph everything from the ground, tarp only if it is safe, open the claim and call us. Read our storm damage checklist for the first-24-hours steps.
RV hail damage repair near you
Hail on an RV roof does two kinds of damage: dents and cracks you can see in the air-conditioner shroud, vent covers, skylights and fiberglass caps, and bruising in a rubber membrane that you cannot see until the roof starts leaking months later. Both are sudden, accidental damage, which is what comprehensive RV coverage is written for. We inspect the entire roof after a hailstorm, photograph every impact, replace cracked vents, shrouds and skylights, and document membrane damage so the claim covers the whole roof rather than a few parts. If you searched "RV hail damage repair near me" from the South Coast, Cape Cod or Rhode Island, we come to the RV.
Camper roof replacement and motorhome roof replacement near you
Camper roof replacement, travel trailer roof replacement, fifth wheel roof replacement and motorhome roof replacement are all the same job with different roof materials, and we do all of them at your location. Rubber-roof campers and trailers get a complete new EPDM or TPO membrane over new decking where needed. Fiberglass motorhome roofs are repaired or re-capped depending on the damage. Every replacement is a brand-new roof: the old membrane is never reused.
